Californians love taking to the water. On holidays and weekends, a constant stream of vehicles heads to the nearest lake, river or oceanfront, laden with surfboards, kayaks, sailboats or windsurfing equipment, most of which can be rented if you’re a visitor. You can also hire boats and take to the lake yourself, try wakeboarding, waterskiing or jetskiing, or simply relax while houseboating on Lake Shasta for example.
